Tue, 10 Nov 2009 17:25:26 +0000 http://captureyork.com/news/234 http://captureyork.com/news/234 ALERT: Challenge Results and Vote Week <a href='http://captureyork.com/photo/229045' title='Amish child in South eastern York county by Alan Horn'><img src='http://s3.amazonaws.com/capture_york/upload/1244439332992/full.jpg' alt='Amish child in South eastern York county by Alan Horn' title='Amish child in South eastern York county by Alan Horn' /></a> We asked you to submit pictures of things that were missing on Capture York and you certainly did - almost 200 photos worth! Wow! A lot of submissions were things we had already seen before, but some were very unique. Of the types of photos we had already seen, some new submissions were spectacular. Here's our faves. Obviously there were a lot more submitted and put into the vote flow, which means they could end up in the book. And that was the goal of this challenge - to be sure people were thinking about some off-the-wall photos and to be sure those photos had a chance to make the book. So thanks everyone! Now go vote for these gap fillers! <strong>Another important thing to note:</strong> Vote week is in full effect! There are six days left to vote to shape the Capture York book. Uploading is closed so you can focus in on voting for photos. Try to get your vote graph to 100%! We're super excited to see who'll get published! Also, the end of vote week marks the end of some discounts on the book, so <a href="http://www.captureyork.com/about/book">order yours now</a>! <a href='http://captureyork.com/photo/231338' title='Beaver Creek 2 by Teanna Byerts'><img src='http://s3.amazonaws.com/capture_york/upload/1244865334290/full.jpg' alt='Beaver Creek 2 by Teanna Byerts' title='Beaver Creek 2 by Teanna Byerts' /></a> <a href='http://captureyork.com/photo/232933' title='dressed for adventure by Teanna Byerts'><img src='http://s3.amazonaws.com/capture_york/upload/1245255059910/full.jpg' alt='dressed for adventure by Teanna Byerts' title='dressed for adventure by Teanna Byerts' /></a> <div class='img_grid'><a href='http://captureyork.com/photo/227949' title='Great Northern Egret nest building by Alan Horn'><img src='http://s3.amazonaws.com/capture_york/upload/1244181147939/thumb.jpg' alt='Great Northern Egret nest building by Alan Horn' title='Great Northern Egret nest building by Alan Horn' /></a><a href='http://captureyork.com/photo/228607' title='Spring Deer by Rusty Enterline'><img src='http://s3.amazonaws.com/capture_york/upload/1244341665910/thumb.jpg' alt='Spring Deer by Rusty Enterline' title='Spring Deer by Rusty Enterline' /></a><a href='http://captureyork.com/photo/228422' title='Egret at the pond by Gregg Peterson'><img src='http://s3.amazonaws.com/capture_york/upload/1244291987414/thumb.jpg' alt='Egret at the pond by Gregg Peterson' title='Egret at the pond by Gregg Peterson' /></a><a href='http://captureyork.com/photo/228437' title='Beached by Janice Bender'><img src='http://s3.amazonaws.com/capture_york/upload/1244295700140/thumb.jpg' alt='Beached by Janice Bender' title='Beached by Janice Bender' /></a><a href='http://captureyork.com/photo/229582' title='A Seamstress' Rainbow by TRINITY WALKER'><img src='http://s3.amazonaws.com/capture_york/upload/124451553857/thumb.jpg' alt='A Seamstress' Rainbow by TRINITY WALKER' title='A Seamstress' Rainbow by TRINITY WALKER' /></a><a href='http://captureyork.com/photo/232119' title='Toad on a mucky evening by Lisa Catherman'><img src='http://s3.amazonaws.com/capture_york/upload/1245065622193/thumb.jpg' alt='Toad on a mucky evening by Lisa Catherman' title='Toad on a mucky evening by Lisa Catherman' /></a><a href='http://captureyork.com/photo/229535' title='sun + flower = sunflower by TRINITY WALKER'><img src='http://s3.amazonaws.com/capture_york/upload/1244513504867/thumb.jpg' alt='sun + flower = sunflower by TRINITY WALKER' title='sun + flower = sunflower by TRINITY WALKER' /></a><a href='http://captureyork.com/photo/228606' title='Leaf Framed Sunset by Janice Bender'><img src='http://s3.amazonaws.com/capture_york/upload/1244341376997/thumb.jpg' alt='Leaf Framed Sunset by Janice Bender' title='Leaf Framed Sunset by Janice Bender' /></a></div> Mon, 22 Jun 2009 16:11:25 +0000 http://captureyork.com/news/177 http://captureyork.com/news/177 ALERT: Photo Challenge: Fill the Gaps Hey gang! The book is really starting to take shape. With about two weeks left in the submission phase of the contest, we've had just about every kind of photo submitted. You've made us laugh with some of your submissions, while others have made us stop what we're doing and marvel at the beauty and character of the York area. Great job everyone! But the work isn't done! This is a crucial part of the project. We need to be sure to cover <i>everything.</i> If you think we're missing a certain building or an event, or maybe someone hasn't yet submitted the perfect shot of a rose (actually, we've had hundreds of flower shots submitted, so we probably do have the perfect rose shot already), please <a href="/about/contact">let us know.</a> To be sure we have every type of York photo, we're going to do a photo challenge. We're calling it "Fill the Gaps" and it's open to any photo that you haven't seen a ton of. For this one we're really only looking for new uploads of photos that cover obscure things, or things you think are missing as you poke around Capture York. In very generic terms, we need more photos of friendly faces, sports, heritage, dramatic sunsets, autumn shots, and... well, you look around and see what we're missing. Go out there and capture it, then submit it to this challenge. When you upload photos, you'll see a spot to enter photos for this challenge at the bottom. At the end of the challenge (June 17th), we'll feature our favorites. Getting featured is good because it means your photo will get more views, and thus, more votes. So get out there and take pictures of stuff we're missing! Thu, 04 Jun 2009 20:05:05 +0000 http://captureyork.com/news/174 http://captureyork.com/news/174 Upgrade Coming... Hey gang! We hope you're enjoying the Capture York experience as much as we're enjoying seeing your photos come in. Thanks for submitting such quality shots and voting so often. You've voted almost 75,000 times! Wow! We are posting this news item to let you know we have a few upgrades planned. In the next day or two you may notice some oddities around the site. In fact, it will likely take us a couple hours of downtime to get everything upgraded. Once it's done we will post a little rundown on what's new and what you can expect through the rest of the contest. Stay tuned... exciting times are right around the corner.
